Aunt Lydia recalls Becka Grove and Agnes' testimony of Dr. Grove's sexual abuse. She tells Aunt Elizabeth of Aunt Vidala's deceit.
Aunt Lydia later learns about Becke Grove being molested by Dr. Grove, and promises to herself that she’ll exact revenge against him. She invites Aunt Elizabeth to tea. She tells her about Aunt Vidala scheming against her. Elizabeth is grateful for the warning. Lydia then tells her she needs a favor; she wants Elizabeth to bear false witness against someone.
