Synopsis[]

Under threat, June must find a way to keep herself and her family safe from Gilead and its violent supporters in Toronto.

Plot[]

After the shooting at the memorial service, June decides to order a bullet proof vest so that she can feel safer attending more events. She notices that people are starting to move out of their area, scared by all of the anti-refugee sentiments. One morning, June walks outside and down the street. A truck with a Gilead bumper sticker intentionally crashes into her. The car runs into her again and again, breaking her arm, but before the truck can crush her, Luke intervenes and beats the driver up. June is rushed to the hospital and is okay but has to stay there a few days. Luke has to go to the police station for questioning since he was involved in the incident.

Nick hears what happened and he starts to worry more about June's safety, believing that Gilead will not stop until she is dead. He accepts Mark Tuello's offer to trade information about Gilead in exchange for protection for June. After visiting June in the hospital, Nick returns to Gilead. He punches Lawrence at his wedding, blaming him for the attack. Nick gets sent to jail, where Rose visits him and says that she knew he still loved June and tells him she is done with him.

Janine is told by Aunt Lydia that she will be posted with Commander Lawrence and Naomi. Initially open to the idea of spending more time with her daughter, Janine tries to behave and get along with Naomi. However, after hearing that June was hurt, Janine starts to get mad. She lashes out at Naomi when she is called "Ofjoseph" by her, telling Naomi that that is not her name and that she hates her. As a result, Janine is later arrested by the Eyes along with a Martha from Lawrence's household who was seen giving Janine information about June's safety.

Back in Canada, the driver who attacked June dies as a result of Luke's beating. Rita rushes to their house to let him that the Toronto police will issue a warrant for his arrest. Luke brushes it off as an overreaction, but June insists that they cannot wait until it is too late to leave, like they did in Boston during the rise of Gilead. While initially planning to fly from Toronto to Honolulu via Anchorage, Tuello arrives to inform them that the police will be waiting for them at the airport. Instead, he offers them new travel documents and offers them passage on a train bound for Vancouver, from where they can go to Alaska.

While in the line at the train station, they see police checking documents. Realizing June and Nichole cannot get to safety with Luke, he stays behind and ushers them ahead so they can board the train. He puts his hands in the air to alert the police to his presence and he is arrested. June and Nichole make it on the train but June is devastated that Luke was left behind. She consoles a crying Nichole and looks for a seat. June hears another baby cry and finds Serena and Noah on the train as well. They make eye contact and stand together as the train sets out to the West.
