Professional is a male social class in Gilead, mentioned only in The Testaments[1]. Professionals are among the higher ranking males, and its affiliates typically hold a profession that enjoy the Commanders' confidence; Aunt Lydia names "doctors, dentists, lawyers, accountants" in particular [2].
Unlike the Econopeople, the lower ranking civilian men, they may be allocated a Handmaid if their wife is infertile, but this occurs less frequently than Commanders, and is typically a reward for Professionals in good standing with the state. [3].
Medical personnel can also be Angels[4] or Commanders [5]
