Can the title page on Gilead be renamed from Republic of Gilead to just Gilead? Nobody usually refers to countries in their full formal forms, only in their colloquial formats. Ex. Republic of South Africa is referred to as South Africa, Democratic People's Republic of Korea as North Korea, People's Republic of China as China, and sometimes the People's Republic, and the United States of America as either America, US, USA, or the United States. Numerous articles on The Handmaid's Tale or Testaments refer to Gilead as just plain Gilead.
Well, next question: Can the article "United States of America" be renamed to just America or USA? Nobody usually refers to countries in their full formal forms, only in their colloquial formats ...just kidding.
The official name of this theocracy in all narratives is Republic of Gilead, the political entity is introduced and portrayed as Republic of Gilead in the book (II Shopping) and on various occasions in the show (eg A Woman's Place).
Thus, the wiki article(s) named "Republic of Gilead" explain(s) the term "Republic of Gilead" and what it means in the context of each narrative. This is how a knowledge base works.
However, since the term "Republic of Gilead" is also an irrefutable allusion to the Old Testament region of "Gilead", feel free to create a new theme page about the (bible) term "Gilead".where you can explain the biblical origin of the name "Gilead".
Optionally or alternatively, create a disambiguation page for the term "Gilead" where you could mention that the term "Gilead" is colloquially used for the "Republic of Gilead" theocracy (provide references here), or for its regime (?), or for the OT thing .(see e.g. the "resistance" disambiguation page for comparison).
Hi, please remember that verifiability + neutrality are non-negotiable, so please stop questioning the informational character of this site by repeated replacements and removals of descriptive content ("Republic", "Theocracy").
I've turned a blind eye on the Mac(Kk)enzie thing, but don't mistake meekness for weakness. Read the community policy for clarity and let me know if you still have questions.
Seems you keep ignoring the essence of a knowledge database and the collaborative rules that make it function in particular (verifiability+neutrality). There is NO space for any personal or unsupported point of view in article bodies.Your changes from "Repiublic of Gilead" to simply "Gilead" are biased anyway, as you admitted in a post recently. Won't review any more of your edits.
Not as biased as you think, but my changes from "The Republic of Gilead" to only "Gilead" proves that many people refer to countries only in their simplified forms. The Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics was shortened to the USSR or the Soviet Union for example. Like I said, we don't always refer to countries in their full forms, but in their short and commonly-called names.
