I am Ofglen.

Lillie Fuller expresses indifference about her predecessor's whereabouts.[1]

Lillie Fuller is a recurring character in The Handmaid's Tale. She is the Handmaid assigned to Commander Glen Deeds who replaced Emily Malek as Ofglen. She is only known as Ofglen until her real name is eventually disclosed in Season 2 of the TV series.[2]

Story[]

June Osborne, as Offred, expects to meet the original Ofglen at the usual spot outside the Waterfords' house, but a different woman using the same name introduces herself.[1]

While grocery shopping with other Handmaids, Offred encounters "Ofsteven", the original Ofglen, where she learns about Mayday. While they are still talking, the new Ofglen, Fuller, pulls Offred away before she can learn anything else. She explains with obvious irritation that she used to be a drug addict, and that she likes being a Handmaid because she now has a safe place to sleep and her masters are nice.[3]

All of the Handmaids are called to come together to stone someone who endangered a child. To their shock, they learn that "someone" is Janine. The Handmaids hesitate and Fuller is brutally beaten by a guard when she breaks rank and voices her angry refusal to Aunt Lydia. The other Handmaids, beginning with Offred, drop their stones, each saying "I'm sorry, Aunt Lydia", a phrase they were taught early in their indoctrination. Aunt Lydia promises that they will all be punished and sends them home.[4]

It is later revealed that Fuller has her tongue cut out as punishment for speaking out against stoning Janine.[5]

At the opening of the new Rachel and Leah Center, Fuller walks away from the other Handmaids standing outside the windows of the auditorium and enters the building where Commander Fred Waterford is making a speech to Commanders from many different districts. She turns to face the Handmaids assembled on the ground floor and reveals that she has a detonator, holding it so it is visible to the Handmaid's, without showing her hand to those inside. The Handmaids take the hint and flee from the building while Fuller runs towards Waterford and detonates the bomb. The ensuing explosion appears to kill many of the people inside the building, including a number of Handmaids on the balcony overlooking the auditorium who were unaware of what was about to happen.[6] It is later revealed that 26 Commanders and 31 Handmaids died in the attack, including Commander Pryce.[2]

After the bombing, Rachel Tapping reports the names of the deceased handmaids during a press conference in Little America; the formerly anonymous Ofglen's real name is finally revealed.[2]

Quotes[]

“I used to get fucked behind a dumpster just so I could buy a sixth of Oxy and a Happy Meal. I'm clean now. I've got a safe place to sleep every night and I have people who are nice to me. And I want to keep it that way.”  — Ofglen explains how the new social order has been a personal benefit.[3]

“Aunt Lydia, come on! We can't do this! Seriously?! Guys, this is insane! I'm not gonna do it. I'm not gonna kill Janine. Okay?”  — Fuller angrily refuses to "particicute" Janine.[3]
