Kate, sometimes referred by her patronym Offred, is the main protagonist of the 1990 film The Handmaid's Tale. She is a woman who is forced to work as a Handmaid in the early years of Gilead due to the fact she is still capable of bearing children. Kate was portrayed by the late Natasha Richardson.
