James is a character in the fourth season of The Handmaid's Tale.
History[]
James was separated from his birth parents and was placed as a Commander's son named Asher. He was one of the 86 children liberated from Gilead on Angels' Flight.[1]
Season 4[]
James is adopted by his aunt Jean after he returns from Gilead aboard Angels' Flight, thanks to the bravery of June Osborne and The Marthas' Network. Moira Strand, an aid worker and refugee, comes to check on James, who still thinks of himself as Asher, his Gilead name. Jean says that he has refused all the lunches she cooked for him, and that he hates it in Canada and wants to go "home".
Moira arranges Rita to come to visit Jean and James, and has her prepare a Gilead dish for him. He appears somewhat happier after seeing a Martha who was with him on the plane.[1]
