Dolores[1] is a recurring character in the first and second seasons of the TV Series, as well as a minor character in the novel. She is a Handmaid and presumably was trained at the Rachel and Leah Center. She is frequently seen alongside Brianna, suggesting the two may be shopping partners. Her patronymic is Ofsamuel.

In the novel

Dolores is trained at the Rachel and Leah Center together with Offred. She has her bed next to Janine's.[2] Dolores once wets the floor and is brutally beaten after the Aunts deny her a visit to the restroom.[3]

In the TV series

Season One

"Offred"

Dolores is introduced alongside Brianna (Oferic) in a local supermarket, where they are shopping along with June, Emily, and several other Handmaids, Marthas, and Econowives. She and Brianna both offer June advice on her new posting, with Dolores commenting that June will likely be able to get extra groceries for her household since her Commander is "really high up" and "in the news." Upon receiving stares from her fellow Handmaids, she quickly swears that she hasn't read any news.

"Night"

Dolores is present at Janine's attempted stoning (where she comments that she hates participating in stonings), and is one of the first Handmaids (after June and Alma) to throw down her stone and refuse to execute Janine. Aunt Lydia sends all of the Handmaids home with the promise of future consequences for their defiance.

Season Two

"After"

Dolores survives Lillie's attack on the new Rachel and Leah Center, and is later shopping in a marketplace with her fellow Handmaids. As part of the cycle in which the Handmaids reveal their real names to each other, Dolores reveals hers and, in response to Janine's snickering, comments that she was named after her grandmother.
