Commander Robert Keyes is a character in the fourth season of the TV Series, and is a Commander in Gilead. He is married to Esther Keyes.
History[]
Commander Keyes takes a young teenage girl called Esther as his child-bride. He cannot sexually perform, but he still wants a child, and he has other Commanders, Eyes, and Guardians rape her in hopes of getting her pregnant.[1] Esther starts gradually poisoning him with nightshade, and he goes senile, allowing her to control the household.[2]

Commander Keyes meets June Osborne in the guise of a Martha and says that he can't recall her name, though he doesn't question her presence. He also doesn't remember the name of his own wife, Esther. It is clear that Commander Keyes' mind has completely deteriorated and that he poses no threats to the rebels in his own household.[1]
"Nightshade"[]
When June accepts Esther leaving with her, she says that they need to dispose of Commander Keyes. Esther makes poison for June, and she is successful at killing many other Commanders, Esther is later arrested for her actions against Gilead.[2]
