I was a godmother to my sister’s child. He died. It wasn’t my fault. Aunt Lydia to June.
There's a crack forming in Gilead.

I agree! Can't wait to see who breaks first.
I think Aunt Lydia acts this way, maybe because she feels guilty about the godson's death... Bringing these children into the world, she feels rewarded for something she has done in the past. Because I did not understand why she said, "It was not my fault." What do you think?
Who would SAY that unless it somehow WAS her fault (or that at least she felt it was her fault). This series is brilliantly showing all the ways women hurt can one another when we are made to feel inadequate (i.e. infertile as in Serena’s case - tho it’s almost certainly not even her issue - Fred’s shooting blanks) or when we carry guilt (as in Aunt Lydia’s case, which we are beginning to see). Lydia is a complex character, fiercely protective of her “girls” while also meeting our harsh punishment for anyone who veers towards harming children, directly or indirectly. Having perhaps contributed to a death of a child “in the time before” suddenly gives twisted meaning to her strict moral code.
I wonder if she'd worked in a daycare in the "before." I doubt we'll learn more about her background. I wouldn't mind an episode of us seeing Aunt Lydia in the "before."
